Paraiso Verde is a tropical plant in the Araceae family, also listed botanically as Philodendron ‘Paraiso Verde’. Its native area is considered as South America and Central America. The name “Paraiso Verde” means “green paradise,” and the plant is also known as Marina Ruy Barbosa. The plant is known for long, deeply lobed green leaves with irregular yellow and light green variegation. Young foliage may begin as deep glossy green or neon green, then mature with lighter green, yellow tones, and sometimes blue-grey colouring. The leaves are heart-shaped when young, later becoming elongated, lobed, or mosaiced, with undulating margins.
Growth Habit
Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde' is an evergreen tropical vine with an upright, climbing growth habit. It produces aerial roots along sturdy green stems and benefits from a moss pole, trellis, or other support.
Watering Requirement
Water when the top half of the soil has dried out, or when the upper 2–3 inches feel slightly dry. Keep the potting mix moist but well drained, and never allow the plant to sit in water. Incorrect watering may cause yellow leaves, drooping, stunted growth, brown tips, or root rot.
Ideal Placement
Place Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde' in a warm, humid indoor area with medium to bright indirect light or filtered sunlight. An east-facing window, or a position several feet from a south- or west-facing window with filtered light, is suitable. Keep it away from direct sun, cold drafts, doors, windows, and air vents. Ideal temperatures are around 18–32°C, with humidity around 60–70%.
Special Features
This species features striking leaf aesthetics, with a light green cloud or marbled pattern variegated against a dark green backdrop. As a natural air purifier, it filters harmful toxins from indoor environments. Structurally, it produces long, thin petioles and functions as a trailing or climbing plant ideal for moss poles.
Plant Care and Maintenance
For healthy growth, use moist but well-drained soil mix. Propagation is done by stem cuttings with a leaf and node, rooted in moist soil or water. Pruning is not regularly required, but yellow, dead, damaged, reverted green leaves, or excess vines can be removed. Common pests include aphids, mealybugs, spider mites, and scale. Common problems include root rot, leaf spot, bacterial blight, reverted leaves, yellowing leaves, brown tips, and drooping leaves. The plant is toxic to humans and pets.
